Claudius Tanski was born in Essen (Germany) in 1959. He studied first at the Hochschule in Essen with Prof. Georg Stieglitz, then at Universität Mozarteum Salzburg with Prof. Hans Leygraf, in Vienna with Prof. Heinz Medjimorec and finally in London, where Alfred Brendel was his most important teacher for several years.
Tanski won a lot of prizes and distinctions at international competitions and played as a soloist as well as a chamber-musician at important festivals. He held concerts throughout Europe and also in USA, South America, Japan, South-East Asia and India. Some of the halls where he played are: Berlin - Konzerthaus, München - Herkulessaal, Leipzig - Gewandhaus, Hamburg - Musikhalle, Salzburg - Großes Festspielhaus, Prag - Rudolfinum, Buenos Aires - Teatro Colon, Tokio - Suntory Hall.
Moreover, he played piano concerts under the baton of Yuri Termirkanov, David Stern, Martin Sieghart, Istvan Denes, Heinz Wallberg and George Hanson.
Claudius Tanski played chamber music with musicians such as Tabea Zimmermann, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Boris Pergamenschikow, Clemens Hagen and Benjamin Schmid. He played lieder as well with Rita Streich und Eva Lind.
Tanski recorded some 20 CD`s for the German label MDG (www.mdg.de). His recordings were honoured with a lot of international prizes, among them "CD of the year" for US-magazine "Fanfare", "Editor`s Choice" of "Gramophone", five times the "Prize of German Record Critics" and an "Echo-Klassik-Prize" 1997 in the division Chamber music, twice "Pasticcio"- prize of ORF (Austria's main television channel) in January 2006 and June 2008.
Claudius Tanski was invited as Jury-Member in several competitions. Among them at the Pozzoli Competition in Seregno, Pinerolo International piano competition, Arcangelo Speranza of Taranto and Genova 2010.
He is Professor at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg since 2003.
